Sensory Stitches: 8-13 Sep 2022 at Tai Kwun F Hall
As the first specialised exhibition on intelligent textile held by the Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence in Design (AiDLab), Sensory Stitches featured a unique intelligent textile system with AI-based gesture recognition, along with a collection of 9 novel photonic textile designs and photonic fashion. These innovations created a brand-new interactive experience and visual stimulations to visitors.
Sensory Stitches, a 6-day exhibition running from 8 to 13 September, was honoured to have invited Ms Rebecca Pun, JP, The Commissioner for Innovation and Technology (Innovation and Technology Commission), to preside at the ceremony with The Hon. Sunny Tan, Member of the Legislative Council of the HKSAR for the Textiles and Garment Functional Constituency, Prof Christopher Chao, Vice President (Research and Innovation) of PolyU, Ms Shirley Chan, BBS, JP, Vice Chairman, YGM trading Ltd. & Council Member of PolyU, Mr Albert Wong, CEO of HKSTP and Prof Calvin Wong, CEO of AiDLab as well as the designer of the intelligent textile system & COO of AiDLab
Dr Jeanne Tan.
Developed by
Dr Jeanne Tan and her team, the intelligent textile system recognises hand and body gestures by utilising computer vision and deep learning in tandem with Polymeric Optical Fibres (POFs), and provides immediate feedback via different coloured illuminations. The patented design and technology transform conventionally passive fabrics into interactive textiles for dynamic customisation of environments and products. The intelligent textile system can be applied within the contexts of fashion, interiors and rehabilitation. The project is going to licence to a District Health Centre for the application of rehabilitation.
